What are the Different Types of Sealant?

Different Types of Sealants & Their Common Uses

Sealants are a type of adhesive that is used to seal gaps, cracks, and joints. They are often applied to the exterior of a building in order to prevent water from entering the building. They can also be applied to the interior spaces of a building in order to seal pipes, windows, doors, and other openings where water might come in contact with any surface.

There are two main types of sealant: liquid and solid. Liquid sealants are typically applied by spraying or pouring them into gaps, while solid sealants require a caulking gun. Liquid sealant is known to be more flexible than solid sealant and can be used for a variety of applications including making joints waterproof, providing insulation between glass panels, and forming an airtight bond between the roof and walls of a building. Liquid sealants are typically applied using a roller, brush, or spray. These sealants can be seen easily because the liquid is clear, and they don't leave a flat finish. Liquid sealers typically come in both water-based and solvent-based formulas.

A solid sealant is typically a liquid that is applied to a surface in order to stop air or water from passing through. Solid sealants are usually clear, so you won't know if they are there unless you break the seal.
