Caulk is what turns a rough gap into a crisp painted line — along skirting, architrave, coving and where timber meets wall. It stays flexible, so the line doesn't crack as the building moves and the timber breathes, and it takes paint straight over the top. Using caulk properly

  • Caulk is for gaps that barely move and will be painted — skirting, architrave, coving, frame-to-wall lines.
  • It is not a wet-area or movement-joint product. Round a bath, shower or a joint that flexes, use a silicone instead.
  • Cut the nozzle small, lay a thin bead, then smooth it with a wet finger or a caulking tool before it skins.
  • Let it fully cure before painting, or the paint can crack over a soft bead.
