It stays flexible, so the line does not crack as the building moves and the timber breathes, and it takes paint straight over the top. Using caulk properly

• Caulk is for gaps that barely move and will be painted: skirting, architrave, coving, frame-to-wall lines.
• It is not a wet-area or movement-joint product. Round a bath, shower or a joint that flexes, use a silicone instead.
• Cut the nozzle small, lay a thin bead, then smooth it with a wet finger or a caulking tool before it skins.
• Let it fully cure before painting, or the paint can crack over a soft bead.
