Fixing a batten, a timber plate or a length of skirting to a masonry wall doesn't always need a plug and a screw. A hardened masonry nail drives straight into brick, block or a bedded mortar joint and holds — no drilling, no plugs, no waiting. This collection covers the West range of galvanised masonry nails from 2.5 x 30 up to 3.5 x 100, all in packs of 100.

What's in this collection

• Short (2.5 x 30, 2.5 x 40) — for thin battens, beading and light timber.
• Mid (3.0 x 50, 3.0 x 60, 3.0 x 70) — the everyday sizes for standard timber-to-masonry work.

Getting a masonry nail to hold

• Pick a nail long enough to pass through the timber and still bite well into solid masonry behind it.
• Aim for solid brick or a bedded mortar joint — not perp joints or the thin face of a hollow block, which can blow out.
• Wear eye protection. Hardened nails can shatter or ping if they hit hard aggregate or go in at an angle.
• For heavy or structural loads, a screw and plug or a proper frame fixing still wins. Masonry nails are for fast, light-to-medium fixing.
