A hardened masonry nail drives straight into brick, block or a bedded mortar joint and holds — no drilling, no plugs, no waiting.   • Short (2.5 x 30, 2.5 x 40) — for thin battens, beading and light timber.

Getting a masonry nail to hold

  • Pick a nail long enough to pass through the timber and still bite well into solid masonry behind it.
  • Aim for solid brick or a bedded mortar joint — not perp joints or the thin face of a hollow block, which can blow out.
  • Wear eye protection. Hardened nails can shatter or ping if they hit hard aggregate or go in at an angle.
  • For heavy or structural loads, a screw and plug or a proper frame fixing still wins. Masonry nails are for fast, light-to-medium fixing.
