Damp proof membrane — heavy-gauge DPM for under floors and oversite

DPM is the polythene sheet that goes under a slab to stop ground moisture rising into the floor and the finish on top of it. Get it right and the floor stays dry for the life of the build. Get it wrong and you're chasing damp back through screed, tiles or vinyl. This collection covers the two gauges the trade actually uses.

What's in this collection

  • Principal Black DPM 1200 gauge / 300 micron, 4m x 25m — the standard-weight roll for under-slab and oversite work on most domestic floors.
  • Principal Black DPM 2000 gauge / 500 micron, 4m x 12.5m — heavier sheet for rougher hardcore, higher-risk ground, or where a tougher membrane is specified.

Laying DPM without leaving a gap

  • Lap sheets generously and tape the joints so water can't track between them.
  • Turn it up the walls and lap it onto the DPC, so floor and wall protection join into one barrier.
  • Lay it on a blinded, level surface. A sharp stone through the membrane is a leak waiting to happen.
  • Tape around every pipe and service that comes up through the floor.
