Flat (spade) bits clear a hole quickly when a clean edge isn't the priority – running cables and pipes through joists and studs, drilling out for fixings, general carpentry. The set covers the everyday sizes, and the 12" extension shank reaches through deep timber or into awkward spots a short bit can't.

Run the drill at a steady speed and let the point centre the bit – ease off as it breaks through the far side to avoid splintering, or back the timber with an offcut. For clean, precise holes, use an auger or forstner bit instead.
