Owlett Jaton A2 stainless steel screws, 4.0 x 50mm – box of 200, Pozi (Pz2). Countersunk woodscrews in A2 (304) stainless, for work that's outdoors or has to last.
A plated screw will eventually bleed rust through paint, timber or render once it's exposed to damp. A2 stainless doesn't – which is why it's the screw for decking, cladding, fascias, external timber and anything near water or coastal air. The 4.0 x 50mm size suits general medium fixing in softwood and boards.

Pilot-drill hardwoods and near board ends to avoid splitting – stainless is softer than hardened steel, so don't overdrive it. Use a fresh Pz2 bit for a clean drive. On exterior joints, keep every fixing stainless so nothing's left as the weak, rusting link.
